As someone that owns one, I am really hoping it survive long enough to have a well stocked library. Nintendo still dominates the portable gaming market, and they have more money in bonds than their competitors. Nintendo needs to associate itself as more than a kiddy console if they want to survive in a world where gaming is becoming so casual. They fail horribly for other types of entertainment, they have not had youtube, netflix, and hulu until recently, and I can't even watch blu rays on it. Their biggest selling point are their titles, which only appeal to children and Nintendo fans. Its pretty sad their recent success during Christmas was probably due to moms that couldn't find an Xbox One or PS4.

@history

For me its Nintendo/PC

My brothers got the Xbone and its shit. Seriously for a next gen console when I tried to play a game for 1 hour straight I started getting lighting glitches.

Also I think naming it the Wii U was a failure. It alienated its market of average consumers into thinking it was an upgrade rather than a new system. Would have been better off calling it the U.

What do all these new consoles add anyways, aside from better graphics?

The U is portable, but aside from that I don't know anything.

The game pad is pretty innovative, its a touch pad that comes into play with some games. But all the other consoles, it really is just updated graphics. The Xbones voice command is broken as fuck.

Doesn't really seem all that groundbreaking, rather a mix of existing concepts.

It isn't the best thing, but its pretty nice. You can plug head phones into it and play a game while someone else watched T.V.

Also why would you help feed this stereotype?

Don't worry, they'll just put another ending dance in Bayonetta 2 then all the nerd cash will debaucherously come through the woodwork.

If they made a new Zelda for console sales would go through the roof.

Doesn't surprise me. Wii in it's self was a failure in the sense that lots of people owned them but no one played them. WiiU was a good idea except for how Nintendo already had 3DS, 2DS, and others. Also agreed with OP that their games are directed towards children.

Personally I'm a playstation fan.

Again, they have enough money to survive the crash. They produced 9 million consoles and sold 2.8 million in a year. With 100 dollar profit per a 300 dollar console that really hurts though. They better try to ride this out, releasing a new console soon would make them look even more desperate and would sell even less.

@trondur a lot of people did play their wiis at the start, but it just wasn't able to keep up with their competitors. While Sony and Microsoft progressed and their games slightly reached the next generation, the wii was just stuck with what it started with. The only Nintendo console I can name that got better looking games as time went on was the NES/Famicom.

Nintendo's real fail is that they think they will be able to survive making kiddy consoles, but the new consoles have large amounts of appeal to all ages.

As a Wii U owner though, its a good console. Worth the amount of money spent. Its the most god damn glossy console I've ever seen though, which is kind of annoying because in the end scratches are just going to further ruin the aesthetic value. I got the Zelda bundle, so I don't really want to get a skin just to cover up the design it came with. I think I've spent most my time on it playing Wind Waker, Super Metroid, and Super Castlevania. I know I could easily emulate all of these, but the fan boy in me wants to support Nintendo.

Still pissed I can't watch my blu-rays on it.

Also club Nintendo is kind of bullshit. The few good things are out of stock, although I did manage to get the animal crossing card case, and I have one of the 3DS Zelda cases on the way, but everything else in stock is just shit.

Lel pornhub just released the highest pron searches via console and hentai is the biggest search on the wii.

Nintendo's traditional strategy is to go for profitability on the hardware, at the expense of attachment rate; ultimately that relies on a product which has a strong niche and low production costs and Nintendo doesn't have a strong enough weighting on these factors with the Wii U.
